Monthlong intro plan for new NMC prexy done
The Board of Regents and the transition team of the Northern Marianas College have finalized the schedule of activities for its incoming president, Dr. Sharon Hart, who will report for work in the first week of July.
The schedule, presented by interim president Lorraine T. Cabrera to the board, showed an almost monthlong orientation and introduction for the new president.
On her first day of employment on July 5, Hart is slated to meet with the regents and the college management team prior to an afternoon schedule that includes a courtesy call on Gov. Benigno R. Fitial.
Early morning the next day, Hart is scheduled to address college students, employees, and faculty in a general assembly at Room D-1.
Based on the same list of activities, the new president is also expected to meet with the college council, NMC Foundation, and alumni to discuss her developmental plans for the college and its students.
On July 11, Hart will have a meeting via video teleconference with regional college presidents. She is also expected to visit NMC’s instructional site on Tinian the next day.
On July 14, Hart will visit NMC’s Rota instructional site and address employees and students on campus.
In last week’s board meeting, regents approved Hart’s participation in the three-day annual Pacific Postsecondary Education Council in Pohnpei from July 18 to 20. Interim president Lorraine Cabrera emphasized the importance of Hart’s participation in the event. The PPEC is composed of chief executive officers and presidents of the region’s colleges and universities and serves as a forum to address common issues and to foster cooperation in solving common problems facing students—and on a broader level—the people of the Pacific region.
Hart is also slated to meet with Education Commissioner Rita Sablan on July 25 while she is scheduled to speak at the Saipan Rotary Club on July 26. The new president is also slated to speak at the Chamber of Commerce and meet with members of the Legislature soon.
Hart replaced Carmen Fernandez who was fired by the board in April 2010 due to allegations of wrongdoings.
