Registration for Saipan Major League Baseball Association’s 2011 Summer/Fall Youth Baseball League will be held from June 27 through July 1 at Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Parents are urged to register their children—ages 14 to 18—between 9am and 6pm during the specified dates.

In addition, interested teams or players are invited to attend a 6pm managers and coaches meeting on July 5 at the Ada Gym conference room.

Six teams are already confirmed to participate in the league, which is set to kick off next month at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

All games will be played under seven innings, and since it is a developmental program, wooden bats will be used in place of metal ones for the duration of the league.

Weather permitting, each team will be guaranteed to play 20 games or more, exclusive of the playoffs. However, in order to prevent injuries this format will require a four-inning limit per pitcher, per game.

The youth league aims to improve the playing skills of youth players. To help accomplish this goal, league organizers will also conduct a baseball clinic two weeks prior to opening date.

The baseball clinic offers participants the opportunity to learn the basics and fundamentals of the game of baseball. Offensive and defensive strategies and other aspects of the game will also be covered during the two-week period.

Opening day for the league is still being determined.
