‘Butch Journey to XTERRA Hawaii’ race Sunday
XTERRA World Championship-bound Butch Sublemente will be holding a fundraising race this Sunday at Paupau Beach.
Dubbed as Butch Journey to XTERRA Hawaii, the event’s registration starts at 6pm, while the race kicks off at 7am.
“We have three courses: road bike, MTB sport, and MTB open. For road bike, they have to go at five corners, start at Paupau, head up to Radar Station, Suicide Cliff, Bird Island, Grotto, and Banzai and then back to Paupau for the finish,” Sublemente said.
For the MTB sport, riders will also go up Radar Station, turn right to one million gallon, go up to Kimikaze trail and then turn left to the main road for the finish at Paupau. MTB open course will have the same start, but after Kimikaze, riders must go all the way to Autobahn and Grotto trails, Cowtown, and Banzai before heading back to Paupau for the finish.
Entrance fee is only $10.
Proceeds from the tournament will be used to help fund Sublemente’s trip to Hawaii. He will go to Maui on June 23 to compete in the 2011 XTERRA World Championship. The triathlete qualified for XTERRA World after completing the 1.5-kilometer swim, 30-km mountain bike race, and 12-km run in the 2011 XTERRA Saipan Championship in three hours, 32 minutes, and 21 seconds—the best time among the non-pro finishers and eighth fastest overall. Sublemente was the top Saipan male finisher in XTERRA Saipan and ruled the 35 to 39 age group, beating six other participants.
