Prado, Manglona top Kagman High’s Class of 2011
Angela Prado and Michael John Manglona were bestowed Kagman High School’s highest academic honors during commencement rites on campus yesterday noon.
Prado is this year’s class valedictorian and recipient of the prestigious Board of Education award for academic excellence. She is the daughter of Nela and Bobbie Prado. The 18-year-old student will go on to college at the Northern Marianas College where she will take up a nursing degree.
Prado was also the recipient of four other special recognitions: the Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award, Best in Language Arts, Best in Physical Education, and Best in Creative Writing.
She said the honors she got were unexpected but she is thankful to her parents and mentors for their discipline, love, and support.
This year’s Kagman High salutatorian was Michael John Manglona, recipient of the Commissioner of Education Award.
Michael John, the son of Michael and Vicky Manglona, was also the recipient of the Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award and Best in Science Award. He will be joining the U.S. Army.
After all the hard work and sacrifices, Manglona said that receiving all these honors was truly overwhelming.
Lt. Gov. Eloy Inos bestowed the Governor’s Leadership Award on Ryan So’ Ai Camacho, while school administrator Alfred Ada named Suanne Camacho as this year’s Principal’s Awardee.
Alexis Hofschneider was honored with an honorable mention.
Besides Prado and Manglona, others on the Top Ten list were Camacho, Amanda Marie Santos, Hanaivy Babauta, Chakhrit Kapileo, Sherish Marie Nestor, Benedicto Lizama Jr., Rita Sarah Taitano, and Delorina Rabauliman.
KHS principal Alfred Ada and other education officials conferred diplomas on 182 graduates during yesterday’s ceremonies that was attended by hundreds of families and friends of the graduates.
This year’s keynote speaker was CNMI Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan. Among the guests of honor were members of the Legislature, Board of Education members, and principals of various public schools in the CNMI.
