The University of Guam’s 4H Summer Camp offers several different workshops this summer with the June 14 session focused on sustainability and renewable/alternative energy sources suitable for Guam.

UOG Green Interns and the Center for Island Sustainability staff conducted the outreach session for students ages 9-15.

Campers engaged in many activities including observing a real solar array and aquaculture tank in action. They also had hands-on opportunities to see how solar cells and solar remote control cars generate power. Students also competed in a question and answer game show about renewable/alternative energy sources and played energy conservation board games created by UOG Green interns.

“Students learned about the issues and challenges we are facing in terms of energy use and how it relates to our environment, economy, and society,” said Francisco Palacios, CIS energy technician. “Importantly, they were given useful information about what they can do to help find solutions to these issues and make behavior changes in their own lives.”
