A man armed with a machete knocked down a male cashier with a punch during a robbery at a poker establishment in Garapan last Friday.

NMI Crime Stoppers Program coordinator Jason Tarkong said yesterday that the suspect managed to run away with over $300 in cash from Piano Poker.

Tarkong described the suspect as a local male with a blue cloth covering his face and wearing a white T-shirt and blue long pants.

Tarkong said police’s investigation showed that on Friday at 4:12am, police officers responded to a reported robbery in progress at Piano Poker along Middle Road.

The victim, a 53-year-old Chinese man, was in the cashier’s booth when the suspect, armed with a machete, came into the booth.

The suspect then punched the cashier on the face, knocking him down to the floor.

The suspect grabbed the money from the cashier’s drawer and ran west toward the Beach Road area.

Piano Poker is located beside Bar and Karaoke. KW Corp. owns the poker arcade. Another cashier told Saipan Tribune that it is the first time that the establishment was robbed.

Tarkong said the NMI Crime Stoppers Program is offering up to $1,000 cash for information leading to the robber’s arrest.
