Asian Accents, Pure Colors shutting down stores
Asian Accents, which has been one of the most popular suppliers of exquisite furniture and novelty items from Bali, Indonesia and other Asian countries, will be closing its doors this month. It is the latest casualty of a weak tourism-based economy reeling from the March 11 disasters in Japan and other external factors way before that.
Its sister store, Pure Colors, will also be closing its operations.
But while Asian Accents and Pure Colors will be closing their stores in Garapan, their parent company, Treasure Inc., will remain in existence.
Grace Esquivel, retail store manager for both Asian Accents and Pure Colors, told Saipan Tribune that they started selling items at discounted prices—as much as 70 percent and 90 percent—since June 3.
Within days, most of the items at Asian Accents have been sold. Many of Pure Colors’ clothing and other fashion items have also been sold since the sale.
Five of the employees of the stores have already been given ample notice, said Esquivel.
Asian Accents is located at the same building that houses Tony Roma’s and Cappriciosa in Garapan, while Pure Colors is located across DFS Galleria also in Garapan.
Treasure Inc. established Asian Accents in November 2001 by opening up the La Fiesta branch, according to Saipan Tribune files.
In 2004, Treasure Inc. general manager Koji Kimura opened up the Garapan branch to make Asian Accents more accessible to tourists and local residents.
Most of Asian Accents’ products are from Bali, Indonesia. The store carries the Jengara Keramic ceramic dishes, which are very popular in Bali. Other items that the store has been offering are wooden beds, animal figurines, vases, furniture and wall decors, artworks, and handbags.
