Deveney M. Dela Cruz, a junior student at Marianas High School, has been accepted to the prestigious National Society of High School Scholars for her academic achievements and excellence.

Deveney, 17, is the daughter of Rep. Francisco Dela Cruz and Lisa Dela Cruz. She is a consistent honor student since her primary grades and an active member of academic organizations in her school. She is the president of the MHS junior class this school year.

Claes Nobel, chairman and founder of the National Society of High School Scholars and senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, announced Dela Cruz selection to the organization.

“I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Deveney has demonstrated to achieve this level of academic excellence. She is now a member of a unique community of scholars—a community that represents our very best hope for the future,” said Nobel in a letter to the student.

Dela Cruz said her acceptance is an honor. “It’s a very prestigious society and I am really happy that I’m in it right now. This shows all the work that I have done throughout the years and a reflection of my hard work,” she said.

Dela Cruz will be leaving for a month beginning June 19th to Stanford University in San Francisco on a full scholarship under the Junior State of America program, or JSA.
