First phase of the cross island road project nearly complete
The first phase of the Cross Island Road Improvement Project, which begins near the San Vicente-Dandan intersection and ends at the CUC Super Blue Tank in Papago, is about 87 percent complete, according to a Department of Public Works statement yesterday.
The remaining major items of work consist of the application of anti-skid coat, permanent traffic control devices, including pavement making and signs, and activation of the signalized intersection in San Vicente, DPW said.
The only major item of work impacting the completion schedule is the acceptance by DPW of the anti-skid material to be applied by the contractor, Hawaiian Rock Products.
“DPW is working together with all parties to ensure that only acceptable materials are provided and placed throughout our roads. The contractor is expected to meet the project specifications and apply anti-skid coat within the next two weeks, thereafter, the traffic signal at the new intersection can then be activated,” the statement said.
Barring any major weather events or unforeseen circumstances, Hawaiian Rock Products is expected to complete the installation of lane markers and road signs by the latter part of November.
The construction is being managed by Hofschneider Engineering, LLC for the Department of Public Works. Funding for this project comes from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration.
“For your safety, the DPW reminds the public to take extra precaution when entering the construction zone and adhere to the posted construction speed limit signs and temporary traffic control measures. We apologize for the inconvenience during the construction progress as we work to improve our island,” DPW stated. (DPW)
