The award was presented during the 18th National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect on April 16-20 in Washington, D.C. The conference was attended by more than 2,000 child welfare professionals and advocates in the area of child maltreatment.

Recipients were nominated by their state Governor’s Office to receive this prestigious award honoring them for making exceptional contributions to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect in their state or territory. Recipients come from each state, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia and the territories.

Camacho, employed with DCCA-DYS for nearly 13 years, is the supervisor of the Child Protective Services Unit.

Accompanying Camacho to the conference were Community & Cultural Affairs Deputy Secretary Rhonda F. Nogis, Division of Youth Services administrator Laura T. Ogumoro, DYS Tinian staff Augusta Famaw, and DYS Rota staff Ben Atalig.

DYS is mandated by CNMI law to respond to reports involving abused and neglected children and to provide services for families in efforts to reduce or alleviate the risk of further maltreatment.
