The Guam International Film Festival has officially announced its open call for entries for its second annual event, scheduled to take place from Sept. 27 through 30, 2012.

The final date for all submissions is Aug. 3, 2012.

GIFF executive producers and founders Don and Kel Mua have returned with former Paramount Studios director of development, J.D. Iriarte, as festival director.

“The 2012 GIFF will be a refined version of last year’s celebration focusing on the three core values of GIFF’s mission: community, education and entertainment,” said Don Mua.

GIFF proudly presents itself as an international cinema event exhibiting a dynamic source of cross-cultural artistic presence, bridging gaps among the United States, Asia, and the Pacific’s multi-cultural population and region.

GIFF is the first and only annual U.S. film festival in the Western Pacific.

“Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event of which we’ve received submissions from over 20 countries from around the world, I’m very excited for year two as we continue to provide a home for world-class cinema right here in the heart of Pacific Asia,” said program director Kel Mua.

The mission of the Guam International Film Festival is to foster cultural understanding through the art of cinema, while providing opportunities for local talent to flourish through the international cinema market.

The four-day festival will feature special events including screenings of international independent films including Pacific Asian films, filmmaking workshops, gala events and awards ceremonies.
