MP United, Tan Holdings share lead

MP United FC 1 and Tan Holdings FC are tied for the early lead in the boys U15 division of the 2011 NMIFA Youth Football Fall League after winning separate games last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.
MP United 1 won the battle of sister teams after downing MP United 2, 4-1, while Tan Holdings FC routed Shirley’s FC 1, 12-1.
Jehn Joyner scored twin goals for MP United, while Jake Lee and Ryota Ito contributed one each to give their team a 2-0-0 win-draw-loss record and the early lead in the seven-squad field.
MP United 2, which got its lone goal from John Choi, absorbed its first loss after a rousing debut in the league on Sept. 24 where it clobbered Shirley’s FC 1, 17-0.
MP United 1 and 2 were pretty even in the first few minutes of the opening frame before Joyner and company became aggressive midway in the first half to take control of the last match of the day.
By the end of the first half, MP United 1 went ahead at 3-0. MP United 2 then worked on its defensive adjustments in the second half and goalie Julian Pellegrino made several saves, preventing MP United 1 from creating more damage and limiting the defending champion to only one goal.
In the second match in Week 2 of the league, Tan Holdings FC showed no mercy against Shirley’s FC 1 to notch its second win in as many games. Tan Holdings shut out Paire in Week 1, 3-0.
Tan Holdings was consistent with its offense, scoring six goals apiece in the first and second half.
Matansa 9, Shirley’s FC 2 1
In the opening game in Week 2, Matansa Football Club gave Shirley’s FC 2 a rude welcome, nailing an emphatic 9-1 triumph.
Matansa jumped to a 5-0 halftime lead and never looked back, as it scored one goal after another against the all-female roster of Shirley’s FC 2. The victory allowed Matansa to bounce back from a disappointing 1-12 loss to MP United 1 in the league opener.
Yoshi Ray Mafnas had a hat-trick for Matansa, while Jireh Yobech, Sean Perez, Evan Belcher, and David James Bucayo also scored for Matansa. Shirley’s FC’s lone goal came from Karen Ito.
GIRLS U15
Shirley’s FC 7, Paire 2
In the first game in the girls U15 over at the San Antonio Elementary School, Shirley’s FC won its debut game against Paire, 7-2.
Alexa Vergara and Jeraldine Castillo hit two goals each for Shirley’s FC, while Melody Johnson and Mariel Gariguez added one apiece. The winning team was credited with an own goal in the second half.
Matansa 2, MP United 1
In the other girls match , defending champion Matansa improved to a 2-0-0 win-draw-loss slate after a 2-1 win over MP United.
Tahlia Hideo and Elizabeth Basa scored for Matansa in the first half en route to their second win. Matansa crushed Tan Holdings in the league opener, 10-0.
Amy Taylor gave MP United its only goal in the match and her team dropped to a 1-0-1 record.
BOYS U18
Paire 7, Matansa 2
Back at the Oleai pitch for the boys U18 league, Paire defeated Matansa, 7-2.
Paire now has a 2-0-0 card for the lead in the three-team field after a 3-2 upset over MP United in Week 1.
Evert Van Der Maas canned twin goals for Paire, while Hae Sung Lee, Don Cabrera, Zhi Lin also scored for the team. Mark King and Matthew Mafnas put Matansa in the scoreboard in their debut game.
