2nd MBFNMI season to start in February
Reporter
The Masters Basketball Federation of the NMI is gearing up for its sophomore season tentatively slated for February.
The MBFNMI is holding a 5:30pm meeting this Monday at the Carolinian Utt in Garapan to discuss the start and format of the league.
All coaches, managers, and team representatives are expected to attend.
This year, a 50 and Above (50A) age class will be added to the original 35A, 40A, and 45A groupings.
The four divisions are all limited to 10 teams on a first-pay basis that comes with choice of uniform. All players are required to provide proof of age eligibility.
The entrance fee is set at $350 per team and is due by the start of each team’s second game.
The MBFNMI board of directors is permitting players to form their own teams to represent a private company or government department; teams from Tinian and Rota are invited as well.
In the name of its slogan “Fit, Fun, Forever Young” the MBFNMI incorporates an “Everyone Must Play Rule”.
If the rule is not honored a bench technical foul will be subjected.
There is a 12-player maximum per roster and the league will be formatted primarily under FIBA rules with a few ground rules such as time outs allowed from the bench and when a team simply holds possession of the ball.
Neither the opening date of the season nor its venue was disclosed.
Last January, Armatech and Top 45 Builders reigned supreme in the 40A and 45A divisions.
The renovation of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, meanwhile, hindered the start of last year’s 35A season. IT&E was the last MBFNMI 35A champion back in 2010.
Players who are interested in joining and do not have a team are to email mastersbasketball_670@yahoo.com or contact any of the board members listed below.
MBFNMI chair Ray Lizama, vice chair Joe Pangelinan, secretary Scott Norman, treasurer Yosh Gabaldon, with members Bruce Berline and Dante Olivos organized the league.
