The varsity squads of Saipan International School, Marianas High School, and Grace Christian Academy scored dominating wins in last Tuesday’s Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization tripleheader held at the MHS Gymnasium.
Frontrunners SIS1 and MHS 1 remained undefeated in three games, while second-ranked GCA (2-1) bounced back from a loss to defending champions SIS1 last Thursday.
After observing the scores of Tuesday’s matches, the three teams are showing early signs of taking the podium again this year. MHS1 finished second place in 2011, while GCA came in third.
Three games into the season it is now apparent that these three teams are separating themselves from the pack, however the absence of Saipan Southern High School (0-3) has skewed the standings.
Come tournament time, the addition of SSHS and Tinian High School it is still anyone’s guess; SSHS is expected to join in the competition in February.
On Tuesday, SIS1 breezed past MHS2 (0-3) in three sets 25-11, 25-7 and 15-6, while MHS1 overwhelmed Kagman High School (1-2) in similar fashion, 25-10, 25-7, and 15-6.
GCA (2-1) swept the rookies out of Marianas Baptist Academy (1-2), 25-11, 25-6, and 15-9, while SIS2 (2-1) was gifted a no-show win by SSHS.
MHS1 is scheduled to take on the SSHS Lady Rays at 4pm on the south court along side a match between greenhorns MHS2 and MBA at the north end.
Then at 5pm SIS2 waves over GCA on the north square with KHS hosting SIS1 on the south court.
SIS2 and GCA hold identical records, but SIS2 received one of its wins via forfeit and will be put to the test.
All games are played at the MHS Gym.
