The Garapan Community Development Center is inviting all families to take part in the first ever Family Funathon slated for Jan. 28, from 9:30am to 5pm.

Families with at least six members are encouraged to register and participate in various games at the event. Registration begins at the center next to the Garapan basketball court on Friday, Jan. 20, from 8am to 5pm.

Deadline for registration is Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Center manager Joe Diaz said yesterday that the GCDC Family Funathon is a collaboration among partner agencies: the Division of Youth Services, the CNMI Women’s Association, Adult Basic Education program, Workforce Investment Agency, and the offices of House Speaker Eli Cabrera, Vice Speaker Felicidad Ogumoro, and Rep. Edmund Villagomez.

“The GCDC Family Funathon aims to get families together and give them quality bonding time,” Diaz told Saipan Tribune.

According to Diaz, families do not usually spend time together as parents are too busy with work or occupied with other responsibilities. “We want families to be mentally and physically fit to be together because a combination of the two results [in] a great family.”

The event is also hoped to impede social problems that begin at home and develop teamwork and camaraderie among family members.

The event is open not just to families from Precinct 3 but also to those from other districts. Families with less than six members can still join since they can be combined with other families for more fun.

Diaz said the event will feature new and exciting family games such as “bubble brigade,” “sneaker scramble,” “grab bag,” “wacky waiter,” and “mom or dad calling.” Volleyball tournaments will also be held.

There will be exciting prizes for winners, all donated by various businesses, organizations, and individuals.

Diaz urged all families to come together and take part in next Saturday’s event. “More than just winning, it’s about families being together and having fun.”
