[B]Legislative invitation for SOCA[/B]

On behalf of the members of the 16th Northern Marianas Commonwealth Legislature, House Speaker Arnold I. Palacios and Senate President Pete P. Reyes are inviting members of the public to a Legislative Joint Session to receive the 2009 State of the Commonwealth Address.

The Legislative Joint Session will begin at 10am on May 27, 2009, in the chamber of the House of Representatives at the Honorable Jesus P. Mafnas Memorial Building on Capital Hill. (PR)

[B]Red Cross annual meeting on Thursday[/B]

The NMI Chapter of the American Red Cross is having its annual meeting this Thursday, May 21, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the Chapter office on Airport Road. All volunteers, donors, and others interested in the Red Cross are welcome to attend. The purpose of the meeting is to hold elections of the voting members of its board of directors, review reports by Chapter directors, and transact other business as it may come before the meeting. [B]Live fire releases on Farallon set[/B]

The U.S. military will be conducting live fire training and inert mine releases on the island of Farallon de Mendenilla. The schedule date and time is as follows:

* May 19 and 21 from 1pm to 7pm Inert mine releases

* May 21 from 2pm to 7pm Live fire releases

The general location of this activity will be on the island of Farallon de Mendenilla training area on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants.

Due to the danger imposed by this activity, the Emergency Management Office is strongly advising the public—especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators—to stay away from this area during the time and date indicated.

[B]Kagman High School issues progress reports today[/B]

Kagman High School progress reports will be distributed today, May 19, 2009, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. The monthly PTSA meeting will be held the same day, from 6pm to 7pm at the school cafeteria. The meeting will also be held via video teleconferencing for all parents, guardians, staff and students. Parents from Marpi, As Matuis, San Roque, Tanapag, and Sadog Tasi can go to GTC Elementary School to attend the meeting. For more information call 237-3840 or 237-3832; fax 664-3788. (PR)

[B]Puengin Inetnon resumes this Friday[/B]

Puengin Inetnon will resume starting Friday, May 22, at 4:30pm-10pm at the Kagman Community Center Parking Lot. Puengin Inetnon is Kagman’s Friday Night Market for food, drinks, snacks, clothing, arts and crafts. I-Candy will perform and the library’s bookmobile will be present. Puengin Inetnon will be held every government payday Friday. The Kagman Komunidat Association is looking for vendors to sell produce and fish due to popular demand by customers. [B]Kagman Flea Market resumes Saturday[/B]

The Kagman Saturday Flea Market will resume starting Saturday, May 23, at 8am at the Kagman Community Center parking lot. It will be held every government payday Saturday. Individuals can sell their used items for only $5 and will be provided with a tent and table. Come and sell your used item at the fastest growing village in the Marianas. [B]Pams Resort hosts Family Fun Night[/B]

The Palms on Pau Pau Beach, along with Suave, Dove and Axe, is hosting a Family Fun Night set for May 22, at the Palms. This free event starts at 6pm, and will be held at the poolside area. Part of the celebration will be dedicated to the official opening of the Palm’s Observatory. It is the very first observatory, equipped with research quality telescopes, in Micronesia. This will be a wonderful opportunity for families to get out and enjoy Stargazing while learning a little bit about astronomy, and having a good time. In addition to the telescopes, face painting, treats and snacks will be offered at the poolside area. For more information about this event, you may call 322-3311. (PR)

[B]Military ID card personnel visit[/B]

This is to let all military identification cardholders and all concerned that the 9th Mission Support Command ID Card personnel will be on Saipan to issue new or renewal of Military ID card. They will be at the Army Reserve Center on Saipan on May 18-22, 2009. Their hours are from 8am-6pm.

[B]MHS Class of ’70 preps for reunion[/B]

The first graduates of Marianas High School, the Class of 1970, is gearing up for its 40th class reunion next year, 2010. As a kicker, the group will be having a potluck picnic for all classmates, on Sunday, May 24, at the Carolinian Utt from 9:30am until 4:30pm. All classmates are encouraged to attend this very important gathering.
