Korea cultural exchange draws 13 students

A total of 13 junior and senior students from various schools on Saipan left Saturday for the 17th CNMI Student’s Cultural Exchange Program that includes visits to an automaker plant, a military facility, schools, an amusement park, and the Gyeongbokgung Palace.

This annual event is in collaboration between the Junior Chamber Incorporated and the Municipality of Saipan.

However, the Office of he Mayor said it could not release the names of the students as of this time.

The students, who would be accompanied by two chaperones from the Saipan Mayor’s Office and staff from the Saipan JC, ranges from 13 to 17 years old.

Invitations were sent to the different schools and as a result 13 have applied and qualified.

The five-day trip will be all-expense paid except for $300 entrance fee to South Korea to be shouldered personally by the student.

Based on the itinerary, the students will tour Busan in the first day on May 11.

In the afternoon, the group will visit the Ulsan Hyundai Motor factory and at Cheongju.

The students are scheduled to interact with some of the officers at the Air Force Academy of South Korea on Tuesday, May 12.

They will also visit Pocheon JC and the Korea Learning Center where they will experience the local culture and manners there on the same day.

On Wednesday, May 13, the group will continue attending first hand lessons with Korean culture with the local students in Pocheon City, where they will have a half day tour.

From Pocheon they will go back to Seoul on Thursday, May 14, and will attend a lunch meeting at the Lotte World, an amusement park and one of the biggest attractions in the nation’s capital city.

From Seoul, the group will visit YangPyeong City for a dinner with the local JC group.

Before flying back home on Friday, May 15, the students will be visiting the Gyeongbokgung Palace.
