Over 100 walkers, including 13 from Japan, are expected to take part in Marianas Walking Association’s 10th Annual SOPHIA Walk set for Mother’s Day tomorrow along the Saipan Beach Pathway.

MWA said the 13 Japanese participants are from Nippon Turtle Association, a group that has graced the event the past several years.

SOPHIA Walk starts from the Carolinian Utt Pavilion in Garapan with the registration starting at 7am.

It will have two courses. The longer 10-kilometer course will take participants south all the way to Oleai bus stop turning point (near Oleai Beach & Bar) and back to the Carolinian Utt.

For the shorter 5-km course, the turning point is located at the Old World War II Japanese Tank and back to the Carolinian Utt.

Registration is free and includes fruits and drinks. An event T-shirt is also for sale and costs $7. Special treats also await participants, especially mothers, as MWA will be giving away 50 cupcakes. A special SOPHIA Walk cake donated by Joanna’s Transportation will also be served.

Named after former first lady Sophia Tenorio, SOPHIA stands for Saipan Outdoor Physical Health Invigorating Adventure.
