SANTA RITA, Guam—The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas awarded a $3.4 million firm-fixed price, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act contract April 30 to Guam-based, small business Tumon Corp. for the repair and modernization of a bachelor quarters building at Camp Covington on U.S. Naval Base Guam.

“This award represents NAVFAC Marianas’ commitment and support of President Obama’s initiative to keep America working and to jumpstart the economy,” said Capt. Paul Fuligni, NAVFAC Marianas commanding officer. “We are pleased to have awarded our first ARRA contract to a local small business, and look forward to completion of the project, which will enhance the quality of life for our Seabees on base.”

The work to be performed includes furnishing all labor, material, equipment and incidentals required to repair and modernize bachelor quarters building 579. It further entails replacement of interior and exterior doors with a card key system, and installation of stronger doors to withstand inclement weather conditions, such as 170-mph wind velocity typhoons.

Work is scheduled to start next month, with a completion date of April 2010.

All together, NAVFAC Marianas will oversee more than $16 million in ARRA-funded projects that are meant to provide much-needed improvements, repairs and modernization to Navy installations and facilities on Guam.

NAVFAC Marianas’ mission is to strengthen combat readiness through military construction, installation management, and facility operations support. (PR)
