Community invited to watch Parade of Books today
All is set for the 4th Annual Parade of Books today at the Marianas High School Gymnasium and the Saipan Rotary Club is inviting the community to participate in the event.
“We are inviting the community to support the students as they showcase their talents,” said Rotary Club president Ben Babauta during the club’s regular Tuesday meeting at Hyatt Regency Saipan.
The Parade of Books, scheduled to start at 2pm today, is a contest where students dramatize the books they’ve read. It aims to promote literacy and reading among students in the CNMI
From last year’s seven schools, the number of participating schools has increased to nine: Garapan Elementary School, Grace Christian Academy, Kagman Elementary School, Koblerville Elementary School, Oleaia Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Tanapag Elementary School, Dandan Elementary School, and Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School.
Bigger prizes are at stake for the winners this year—$1,000 for first prize, $750 for second, and $500 for third.
The other schools are guaranteed consolation prizes of $200 each.
Aside from cash prizes, the winners and best producers will also take home pool passes, overnight stay with breakfast at the Pacific Islands Club, and trophies.
Last year, the San Vicente Elementary School bested other schools with their dynamic presentation of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, bringing home $700 plus a trophy.
