Toys for Tots drive amasses 4,058 toys worth $44,298
GUAM-Marine Forces Pacific Guam and CNMI celebrates an incredibly successful 2011 Toys for Tots campaign. The goal of doubling the 2010 campaign’s total of 1,359 donated toys worth almost $13,000 was hit outside the ballpark with the 2011 campaign’s total of 4,058 toys worth $44,298.
Supporters of the Toys for Tots program will be recognized at the Guam Chamber of Commerce’s general membership meeting on Jan. 25. The meeting opens with 11:30am lunch at the Sheraton Laguna Resort Ballroom.
According to a statement from the Marine Corps Activity – Guam, “The overwhelming success was only possible because of the generosity and selfless commitment of our island community. Guam’s Catholic Social Services, Alee Shelter, the Salvation Army and Southern Christian Academy are the most qualified to identify the needy children in our community and played a critical role in the distribution of the toys. Consequently parents on Guam were able to ensure each of their children received a large toy and a small toy for a stocking stuffer. We hope next year’s campaign will be even better as The Marine Corps Reserve believes that “Every Child deserves a Little Christmas.”
Since 1947, Toys for Tots has been making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate children in approximately 500 communities covering all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. This was the second year Guam was listed as an official Toys for Tots coordination center and its success has grown exponentially.
