DFS employees now major donors of MMAC
Members of DFS Galleria Employees Association became major donors of the Marianas March Against Cancer following the turnover of a $1,000 check last week.
MMAC chair David Rosario and adviser Jack Hardy received the check from area general manager Shogo Ando and assistant manager Ben Babauta.
Rosario expressed appreciation for the gesture and assured that the money would help a lot in promoting their cause such as educating the families of cancer victims in the CNMI.
“This caught us by surprise,” said Rosario of the donation during the simple turnover ceremony at the DFS administrative office.
DFS has around 130 employees.
Ando said some of the employees have cancer victims in their families.
He said the association is very supportive of the MMAC and other organizations with similar objectives to help other victims.
Rosario said they are glad that many private companies like the two communication giants IT&E and Docomo have thrown their full support to their cause.
Three banks have also given their full assistance to the MMAC: Bank of Saipan, Bank of Hawaii, and Bank of Guam.
MMAC estimates that there are about 200 cancer victims in the CNMI but most do not want to come out in public.
Nardy said there are only about 50 identified as survivors.
“We lost six last year,” Nardy said.
“It’s a universal problem and it also needs some political involvement,” said Babauta.
The MMAC is the fundraising arm of the American Cancer Society in the CNMI and the group has already raised some $250,000 in a span of four years.
