Fielders earned a finals stint in the Senior division of the 2009 Saipan Little League Baseball following their 6-1 semis win over D-9ers yesterday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

Kagman Lion King booked the first finals berth, winning via forfeit over the Jets.

Lion King protested the incomplete/improper uniform of Jets pitcher Toby Fleming and was eventually awarded the win.

The Jets submitted a letter of appeal yesterday morning and SLLB president Mike Borja said the board will meet either tonight or tomorrow to discuss the issue.

“But as of today (yesterday), the decision stands, Lion King won by forfeiture. We will review the ground rules and other regulation and look into the Jets appeal,” Borja said in a telephone interview with Saipan Tribune.

When Saturday’s semifinals game between Lion King and the Jets was halted after three complete innings, the latter was ahead 11-0.

Fleming had a no-hitter, walked three, and struck out three.

Rightfielder Chris Meyers and catcher Marvin Ngeskebei both went 2-for-2 with the former making a one-run double and one-run single. Ngeskebei scored two runs and a one-run double.

Third baseman Harry Nakamura had three RBIs and was 2-for-3 at bat, while centerfielder Josh Jones also hit 2-for-3, scored two runs, and made two doubles.

The best that Lion King could do before being awarded a win by forfeiture was reach second base in the second and third inning.

Fielders’s entry to the finals had no complications, as they dominated D-9ers from start to finish.

Nokki Saralu started on the mound for Fielders, struck out seven, and allowed only four hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Juan Maratita finished the job with four strikeouts, one hit, and two walks.

The only time D-9ers scored was at the bottom of the third on a stolen base by Isaiah Lizama.

Fielders scored two runs in the first with Maratita making it home on a D-9ers error and Saralu reaching home plate on a J.D. Sablan double.

Peter Tenorio singled in the second inning, driving home Jonathan Celis, and Fielders tucked in two more runs in the third on D-9ers errors. Fielders fifth and last run came in the sixth inning with Tenorio scoring on a Sablan single.
