The trend of shooting cover models on Saipan for Japanese youth cartoon magazines is the subject of inquiry by Brutus, a high-class fashion and lifestyle magazine for trend-conscious males in Japan.

A six-member team of Brutus visited Saipan in April 2009 to prepare for the May 2009 edition of the magazine, focusing on Japanese youth cartoon magazines. In the six-page coverage, Brutus will analyze the magazine genre’s cover page and introduce Saipan as a famous location for shooting those covers.

Japanese youth cartoon magazines often feature a young female model on their cover with a 4-5 page introduction. Many of these cover models go on to become famous models or actresses.

“The editor of Brutus wanted to research why this classic format has continued for such a long time, and why Saipan has been so popular place for shooting these covers,” said Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Perry Tenorio. “Also, the magazine article will introduce Saipan as a tourist destination.”

MVA assisted the magazine with shooting permits and hotel accommodations. The approximate ad exposure value is $120,000.

Brutus is published monthly by Magazine House and has a circulation of 88,543, targeting males in their 20s to 40s. (MVA)
