Pacesetting Happy Market Ol’Aces treated their game against struggling IT&E as practice session last Saturday yet their 30-1 mercy rule victory is one for the books.

Ol’Aces’ 30 runs are the most in a game in the Majors Division of the 2009 Saipan Little League at the Miguel “Tan Ge’ Pangelinan Ballfield.

The Red Sox owned the previous record in a 22-8 win over the same IT&E team last April 18.

Six Ol’Aces players—Jerome Reyes, Gavan Borja, Nathaniel Torres, Zakery Yamagishi, Jessiel Brel, and A.J. Piteg—crossed home plate twice in a 14-run, eight-walk, and five-hit performance in the second inning.

Capitalizing on IT&E’s erratic defense, Ol’Aces kept their perfect 10-0 record halfway through the round-robin elimination phase.

Piteg started for Ol’Aces by striking out five batters he faced before Virgil Secharmidal relieved him in the top of the third.

Catcher Virolanson Secharmidal continued with his decent stint at the batter’s box, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.

IT&E suffered its ninth loss in 10 outings.

Leadoff batter Ton Ilo scored the lone run for IT&E in the top of first on a wild pitch.

Shell rallied from a 1-2 deficit with three runs in bottom of the fifth. P.J. Sablan drove home Paul Celis on a single then Sablan and Logan Martin, who also singled, put the team in front after taking advantage of two consecutive fielding errors.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth, substitute Joseph Guerrero Jr. gave the Jets their final run on a single by Seo Wong Jong.

Celis, who relieved Peter Deleon Guerrero in the fifth inning, struck out out the next two batters for the win. Shell posted its second win after 10 matches and dealt the Jets their second defeat in 10 assignments.

The Jets slipped to third following the Hustlers’ win.
