Budweiser softball playoffs postponed
To give way to the Flame Tree Festival, organizers have decided to postpone the ongoing playoffs of the 2009 Budweiser Inter-Government/Business Slow-pitch Softball League.
The loser’s bracket game scheduled last Thursday night between defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and Freedom Air was cancelled to give the players a chance to join the festivities.
The game will be played starting at 7:30pm next Monday, April 27, that would also give fans a chance to watch the game at the Capital Hill Ballfield.
Freedom Air defeated Joeten Motor Jets, 23-9, last Wednesday night to arrange a semifinal showdown with DCCA.
The winner between DCCA and Freedom Air will earn the right to face the Beach Boys in the finals.
In a stunning reversal of fortunes Wednesday night, the Beach Boys defeated DCCA, 20-7, via 10-run mercy rule and gained a twice-to-beat advantage in the championship match, which could have been played last night.
The championship game has been set for next Thursday, April 30, both for the women’s and men’s divisions.
Northern Marianas College will clash with Finance at 6:30pm for the women’s finals, with Finance having the twice-to-beat incentive.
Then the men’s finals between the Beach Boys and whichever team wins between DCCA and Freedom Air will start at 7:30pm.
DCCA’s loss to the Beach Boys snapped a 21-game winning streak and they were sent to the loser’s bracket.
They still have the chance to retain the title but they need to restore their confidence when they meet an equally dangerous opponent in Freedom Air.
