Huwa widens gap in 8-ball tourney

D’Pirates Huwa widened its lead in the Obyan Division team standings by beating sister team 8-Ballers, 6-1, last Tuesday night in the 2009 Budweiser Open 8-Ball League.

After Jess Pangelinan’s defeat in the first singles match of the night, Huwa took the next four singles and the two doubles and pulled away from the rest of the field with 41 wins and 22 losses.

Pangelinan dropped the first frame in his match against Ed Suzuki then hauled the 8-ball on the break in the second frame.

But Suzuki took the match by prevailing in the third frame.

Tero Takai, Ray Basa, Ray Takai, and Simeon Kapileo all won their singles matches before Gerald Guerrero and Tero Takai paired for the first doubles and won.

Kapileo and Basa also teamed up and won in the second doubles.

The 8-Ballers, composed of Suzuki, Perry Inos, Patrick Cepeda, Juan Camacho, and James Reyes fell to sixth place with 29-34.

The visiting USSP Fotten Palau recovered from a 1-2 deficit before coming home with a 5-2 lead against host BwiiBwi’s Shark Attack.

Fotten Palau climbed to second place with 36-27 win-loss card and relegated Shark Attack to fourth with its 33-30 mark.

Running third is the Monte Carlo Perfect Spotters at 34-29 after rallying with a 4-3 decision at home against the visiting VFW Warriors.

The Warriors failed to sustain a 3-1 lead and stayed in the bottom with 20-43.

Also scoring a close 4-3 decision were BwiiBwi’s Da Snipers over USSP Watever.

Da Snipers dropped their first match in the singles and won the next four and lost both doubles.

IT&E Voyagers regain lead in Agingan
In the Agingan Division, IT&E Voyagers regained the lead at home by hammering out a 5-2 win over the visiting Snicker 8-Ball Knights.

Rolly Villanueva, R.J. Mascarinas, Roman Rodriguez, and Jojo Talibong triumphed in the singles for the Voyagers with only Luis Fajardo falling on the way side to the Knights’ Rick Elepante.

Elepante also teamed up with Rodel Dela Cruz for his team’s easy win in the first doubles before Talibong and Villanueva won over the pair of Larry Briones and Gerry Ruezo in the second doubles.

The Voyagers are now 38-18, a win ahead of the Docomo Hustlers (37-19).

Docomo nailed a lopsided 6-1 win on the road against host and cellar dweller Billy Bones Bad Boyz (14-42).

At Wild Bill’s, the Billy Bones Home Boyz (32-24) won four of the five singles before dropping both their two doubles matches to score a 4-3 win over host Wild Wild West (19-30).
