La Fiesta Mall: Gambling and what else?

According to a recent article in the Saipan Tribune, Bridge Capital LLC is proposing to operate video lottery games at the La Fiesta Mall. The Mall is located in the remote, quiet, family-oriented village of As Matuis. Not only is there a concern of the impact such an operation will have on the residents in that area, but perhaps a further concern is about what else might be planned for the future. Wasn’t there a previous proposal for Saipan’s “adult entertainment” businesses to be relocated to La Fiesta as well?

If Bridge Capital gets its foot in the door with the video lottery games, will the adult entertainment and then full-on gambling be next? Certainly there must be some other socially beneficial businesses that would be better choices?

Is this what the community wants? How about the families living in San Roque, As Matuis and Marpi? What do you think about this plan and other uses of the La Fiesta Mall? Now is the time to make ourselves heard!
