Shirley’s loves kids!
The students of Ladera International School of Saipan first visited the kitchen of Shirley’s Coffee Shop in 2007. Two years after, a new batch of 25 students were in for another memorable trip to the Susupe branch of the restaurant. The K4 to first grade classes were accompanied by teachers Genevie Angeles and Christina Sakaziro during the visit on March 30, 2009.
The kids were amazed to be inside the kitchen of one of their favorite restaurants. They saw Shirley’s Susupe chef Roding making pancakes and marveled at the “giant freezer” and the “giant washing machine,” as the kids called the Hobart dishwashing machine. To top it all off, the kids watched a demonstration on the making of a much-loved dessert, the “halo-halo.” Asked what the dessert was called again, one of the students yelled out, “Fruit shake.”
“It was such a fun and spontaneous moment, something that the Shirley’s Coffee shop team truly treasures,” said Shirley’s general manager Susan Macario.
After a tour of the kitchen and dining areas, the kids were given a free treat by the management. What better way to end the tour than by indulging in the Shirley’s Kiddie Meal, a plate of kiddie nuggets, fries and a refreshing glass of fruit punch? The kids enjoyed the treat while watching their book project, Charlotte’s Web, on a 50-inch television mounted at the dining area of the coffee shop.
Macario was delighted to welcome once again the students of Ladera and said the doors of Shirley’s kitchen will always be open to serve as a venue to enhance the students’ eagerness to learn and explore the restaurant’s world of operations. (PR)
