Reintegration program for displaced Filipino workers
Philippine labor attaché Joann Lourdes Lavilla is encouraging Filipino workers in the CNMI who are returning to the Philippines for good to avail of free services and assistance programs through the National Reintegration Center for overseas Filipino workers.
Many Filipino workers in the CNMI have been displaced due to a bad economy that resulted in the closure of businesses and reduction in force.
The reintegration programs include business counseling, training, and job placement in the country or abroad.
“This is to inform workers in the CNMI who have decided to go home for good that there’s a package of assistance given by the Department of Labor and Employment through NRCO. All you need to do is visit our office and fill up a form,” Lavilla said.
The filled up form will be faxed to the National Reintegration Center for OFWs in time for the return of OFWs.
Forms can also be downloaded from the website, www.nrco.dole.gov.ph.
Under NRCO’s One-Stop Center, agencies have made available a package of assistance and services for the benefit of OFWs.
Together with the NRCO, DOLE and non-DOLE agencies of the government are also providing the necessary interventions to alleviate the plight of displaced OFWs.
These include:
-DOLE’S Bureau of Local Employment, a referral service for local employment;
-Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, legal assistance for those displaced OFWs with money claims and referral services for overseas employment;
-Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, for scholarship training, retooling, and skills upgrading;
-Technology Resource Center, a business counseling and training to start a livelihood project;
-Social Security System-OFW Family Club Cards for pertinent services and benefits; and,
-PhilHealth, a family health card for a one-year free health insurance.
