BJ Sablan leads batting race in Budweiser softball
BJ Sablan of the Beach Boys found himself on top of the list in the batting leaders in the Budweiser Inter Government/Business Slow-pitch Softball League.
Sablan maintains a slight lead over closest rival, Payton Sakuma, of Docomo, as the league nears its completion of the regular season.
As of March 20, Sablan averaged .789, hitting 30-for-38 at bat. Sakuma had .788 after going 41-for-52 at bat. Sablan and Sakuma are the only players from their respective teams to make it to the Top 15.
The Beach Boys landed in second place in the team standings with their 16-3 win-loss record, while Docomo is fourth with 15-4.
Julian Camacho of pennant winner Department of Community and Cultural Affairs averaged .727 (48-for-66), good only for third place, though he was on top of the list in most runs scored and in most RBIs.
DCCA swept its 19 regular season games with three more of its players making it to the batting leaders list.
Mel Sakisat went at bat for the most number of times with 70 and the ace pitcher hit 50 to stay in fifth with .714. Joey Dela Cruz was 8th (.688), and Jun Saralu placed 13th (.638).
Mabel Ngirngemelas of POI Aviation stayed at fourth (.721), Benwachi Taisacan of Joeten Motors at sixth (.704), and Roy Celis of Freedom Air at seventh (.702).
Others included on the list based on 43 or more times at bat were Jerry Ayuyu, No Zone (9th-.679), Shane Yamada, Freedom Air (10th-.674), Ned Norita, No Zone (11th- .673), Byron Kaipat, CPA (12th-.660), Tony Celis, Legislature (14th-.636), and Hector Efraim, Joeten Motor Jets (15th-.633).
Julian Camacho topped the list in runs scored with 48, Dela Cruz had 46, Sakisat made 41, Ayuyu recorded 39 and Celis, Sakuma and Craig Sanchez came up with 36 each.
Oscar Sablan and Tony Lizama had the most doubles with 11 apiece and Pete Teigita in triples with seven.
Dela Cruz had the most homeruns with 18, followed by Celis (17), Camacho (15), Ayuyu (14), Kaipat (13), Sakuma (9), Sakisat, and Reno Celis (8).
Julian Camacho recorded the most RBIs with 58, Sakuma had 53, Dela Cruz posted 50, Celis earned 49, Kaipat tallied 46, Ayuyu notched 45, and Taisacan nailed 41.
Roque Camacho of Freedom Air came out on top of the pitching leaders with 4.76 earned run average. He allowed 118 hits and 80 runs out of 75 innings in 13 games.
Based on 35 or more innings pitched, Sakisat was ranked second with his 4.94 ERA, Mike Sablan of P&S third with 5.22, Ed Mendiola of CPA fourth (5.25) and John Terlaje of PSS fifth (5.33).
In the lower half of the Top 10 list were Shine Tenorio and J.J. Laniyo of Joeten Motors with .537 and .540 respectively, Mel Tudela of CUC (6.10), Carl Hocog of No Zone (6.30), and Steve Igisair of Beach Boys (7.00).
