Asterio Tawanpiy had a triumphant return to Kingfisher Golf Links Sunday, as he claimed the RGA March Ace of the Month title.

Tawanpiy, who two weeks ago struggled against the windy condition at the Talafofo facility during the Refaluwasch Golf Association qualifying tournament for the March Ace, came back with vengeance, shooting a 1-over par 73.

The 9-handicapper scored an even par 36 on the front and a 37 on the back for a net 64 to beat Joe Wabol and 18 other RGA members who aimed for the March Ace title.

Wabol set the score to beat in last month’s qualifier, firing a net 67. Tawanpiy competed in the same tournament, but nailed only a net 78 before finally notching the monthly plum in his second attempt.

In second place in last weekend’s tournament was Dwayne Stephens, who was a stroke short of tying Tawanpiy’s mark. The 18-handicapper Stephens carded a 42 and 41 on the front and back nines for a gross 83 and a net 65. Cui Xian Lai, a 17-handicapper, had a 43 on the front and 42 on the back from a gross 85 and net 68 to finish third.

There was a tie for fourth to sixth place with Joe Wabol winning the tiebreak in the scorecard playoff on the front nine. He had a net 31 in the first nine holes. The 24-handicapper Wabol tallied a 43 and 50 on the front and back nines for a gross 93 and net 69.

Also making a net 69, but dropping to fifth with a net 36 on the from was Jess Wabol, who recorded the lowest gross score of the day with a 1-under par 71 after hitting a 37 on the front and 34 on the back. Tars Olopai settled for sixth place, as he had a 37.5 on the front nine after scoring a 42 and 36 on the front and back nines, respectively.
