Phil Pan, Wild Boys win

Wild Boys broke into the win column, while Phil Pan claimed its second victory after prevailing in separate games in the Masters division of the 2009 Navy Hill Friendship Basketball League over the weekend at the Garapan Basketball Court.

Wild Boys had four players scoring in double figures to down Susupe, 79-68, Saturday and notch their first win in three games. Rolan Tengco led Wild Boys with 17 points, Marlon Banaag had 15, and Jun Abedes and Rommel Dizon contributed 14 and 12 markers, respectively.

After starting slow with 12 first quarter points, Wild Boys picked up the pace of the game in the last three quarters for an 11-point win. Wild Boys held Susupe to seven points in the second period to take a 37-24 halftime lead.

Susupe never recovered from thereon, as Wild Boys continued to outgun the former in the second half. Susupe dropped to a 1-2 record.

In Sunday’s game, Amor Casabuena drilled 12 of his 20 points in the third period to lift Phil Pan to an 81-74 win over Garapan.

The match was tied at 33-all at halftime, when Phil Pan outscored Garapan in the third period, 28-18, to grab the upperhand, 61-51, going into the payoff canto.

Jessie Mina picked up where Casabuena left off in the fourth quarter, hitting eight points to foil Garapan’s comeback bid. Mina led all scorers with 28 points.

Edel Carino had 14 markers for Garapan, which now has a 1-1 slate.

Susupe 68 – Olivos 25, Lasaga 20, Santos 8, Jacob 6, Concepcion 4, Lopez 3, Calma 2.
