A two-day joint task force operation conducted by members of federal and local law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest of 14 persons, mostly for allegedly engaging in prostitution.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said yesterday that of the 14 arrested, all Chinese, 12 women were nabbed for prostitution activities in Garapan and Susupe.

Ogumoro said one man was apprehended for illegal possession of a controlled substance and trafficking of a controlled substance in Garapan.

She said the other man was picked up for operating an illegal taxi in the parking lot of the Bank of Hawaii.

“All the arrestees were later booked and detained at the Department of Corrections,” Ogumoro said.

She said the two-night operations were conducted Friday and Saturday by members of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, DPS Criminal Investigation Division, U.S. Marshal Service, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

The suspects were taken to the Superior Court yesterday afternoon for a bail hearing.
