A car with three allegedly drunk occupants, including two female minors, was seen traveling at high speed in Dandan Friday night. When police tried to flag it down, its driver engaged police officers in a high-speed chase.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said yesterday that the driver, Dornaine Aguon Pagcu, 22, was detained for driving while under the influence, eluding a police officer, reckless driving, driving without a driver’s license, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Ogumoro said the female passengers—14 and 16 years old—were arrested for consuming alcohol and were released to the Division of Youth Services.

The DPS spokesperson said that, on Friday at 8:25pm, as traffic DUI officers were conducting highway enforcement along Monsignor Guerrero Road, they saw a white car traveling at high speed and making unsafe lane changes.

The officers also saw the car, a 1996 Mitsubishi Mirage, recklessly overtaking another vehicle using the opposite travel lane.

The DUI officers activated their emergency signal devices and chased the car that headed toward Dandan.

The car, however, accelerated and tried to elude the officers. The vehicle swerved on the wet roadway, forcing some oncoming vehicles to pull over to the shoulder of Dandan road to avoid a head-on collision.

The chase continued past Dandan Elementary School and in several intersections within the Dandan village. During the pursuit, the car almost rammed one of the houses.

The driver, Pagcu, continued trying to elude the officers and in the process running through traffic stop signs within the village.

As the car came to a screeching halt, the officers observed movement within the car. The officers ordered the three occupants to step out of the vehicle.

Later, another vehicle drove to the scene and the driver informed the officers that Pagcu’s car had struck their vehicle earlier.
