Woman arrested for allegedly choking daughter, 11
Police arrested a woman for allegedly choking her 11-year-old daughter and hitting her with a belt at their residence in Garapan on Saturday.
Terry Ann M. Pangelinan, 26, was arrested for alleged child abuse, and assault and battery.
The girl sustained bruises in the arms, legs, ears, and neck. She was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center.
Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona earlier imposed a $6,000 cash bail for Pangelinan’s temporary liberty.
The defendant was taken before associate judge Kenneth Govendo yesterday for a bail hearing.
Detective Adrea C. Ozawa stated in her report that it was Pangelinan’s former common-law husband who went to the Department of Public Safety Saturday night to report the incident.
Ozawa said the former common-law husband sought police’s help because he believed Pangelinan had choked their daughter.
When a police officer responded to the house, he observed red marks on the girl’s neck. Pangelinan told the officer that nothing had happened.
The girl, however, cried and told the officer that her mother beat her up when she talked to her father on the phone.
Pangelinan allegedly spanked her with a belt, pulled her by her hair, slammed her on the bed, then choked and punched her.
Pangelinan then grabbed the phone from the girl and told her former common-law husband that she was choking their daughter.
