Man in coma after attack dies
A Palauan man who was in a coma after being attacked possibly by two men last week passed away Thursday afternoon, according to the Department of Public Safety yesterday.
DPS now classifies the death of Ligardo Omisong as a homicide, making it the first homicide case in the CNMI this year.
As of yesterday, no suspect has been arrested yet.
DPS spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said the 44-year-old Omisong died at the Commonwealth Health Center, where he was in a coma since the incident happened. The cause of death was said to be subdural hematoma.
Ogumoro said that Guam chief medical examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola was expected to conduct last night an autopsy on the victim.
“DPS investigators are requesting the assistance of community members to please call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 664-9045/55 or Crime Stoppers if they have any information regarding this crime,” Ogumoro said.
According to a police report, Omisong was found lying on his back on the main road in front of Leo Poker in San Jose early Friday morning, Feb. 27.
Police officers responded to the scene after they received a call about a disturbance at 3:22am.
A witness told responding police officers that he heard screams from outside his home and when he checked, he saw the victim lying unresponsive on the roadway.
The witness saw two men running north toward San Jose Mart.
The victim, who was later identified as Omisong, had been in a coma since then due to major head injuries.
