A man allegedly repeatedly punched his girlfriend and then assaulted his mother who had tried to stop the beating at a residence in As Matuis last weekend.

Elvin C. Kani, 31, was arrested Wednesday night for assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

Kani was taken to the Superior Court Thursday afternoon.

Associate Judge David A. Wiseman set a $20,000 cash bail for Kani’s temporary liberty.

The victim suffered a black eye and was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment. She told police it was not the first time her boyfriend beat her up.

The girlfriend said she believes her 2-month-old daughter has health conditions as a result of domestic violence when she was pregnant.

Detective Katherine M. Manglona stated in her report that Kani, the victim, and their baby were on their way home from a party in Tanapag last Saturday night.

While in their car, the defendant brought up the victim’s past then began slapping and punching her several times in the face and arm.

When they reached their house, Kani allegedly continued beating up his girlfriend, repeatedly punching her on the face and rib cage.

Detective Manglona said Kani’s mother told police that when she tried to stop the beating, he pushed her.

The mother said she was hit on the lips, causing her pain.
