Today’s kids clinic to kick off Marianas Cup
Organizers are inviting kids of all ages to join the special beach volleyball clinic today, March 5, at the Pacific Islands Club.
The free clinic is set from 3pm to 5pm and will be conducted by professional players led by Olympic gold medal winner Phil Dalhausser of the United States. The event kicks off the 17th Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival.
There will also be exhibition matches on Friday, March 6, between teams from the U.S., Japan, and Korea, which will be open to the public free of charge.
The tournament proper begins on Saturday, March 7, with men’s open and women’s open doubles at the PIC sand courts. Continuation of games as well as the championship game will be on Sunday, March 8.
Also on Sunday, the kids’ tournament will be held to spice up the main event.
Professional players will personally supervise the conduct of the kids’ tourney, which is open for 10- to 15-years-old with teams of four players and at least one girl.
Russ Quinn, one of the organizers, said “these experiences for the kids could be a life-changing and extremely inspiring for them and their parents as well.”
Quinn said they are aiming to draw some 500 people to watch the exhibition matches.
“It will be rocking at PIC, there will be fantastic games (men’s and women’s), live music, great drink specials, and hopefully a great sunset,” Quinn said.
The cost for the kids’ tournament is $5 per kid and includes waterpark passes and other goodies.
“This is a great deal! We are also looking for individuals that will sponsor kids that cannot afford this,” he said.
