Utopia Mix Acers displayed near flawless shot-making in their win over the Snicker 8-Ball Knights to share the early lead in the Agingan Division, while two other teams are tied on top of the Obyan Division following the opening round of the 2009 Budweiser Open 8-Ball League last Feb. 24.

All five Mix Acers—Chester Hamoy, Chester Cuanto, Primo Ferrera, Clifford Hamoy and Mario Jumalon—won in the singles and prevailed in the first of two doubles matches to beat the visiting Snicker 8-Ball Knights, 6-1.

Jumalon and Cuanto paired in the doubles to edge out the tandem of Rodel Dela Cruz and Ric Elepante, but the Knights’ Larry Briones and Marvin Mendoza recovered from a 0-1 deficit by snatching the next two games to defuse the tandem of the Hamoy brothers and prevent a shutout.

In the battle of telecommunication companies, the visiting Docomo Hustlers won four of their five singles matches and split their two doubles assignments to score a 5-2 win over IT&E Voyagers.

With the win, the Hustlers are now running second. The team is composed of Senen Pangelinan, Rowel Mariano, Robert Sanciangco, Jerry Soriano, Erwin Gomez, and Joey Lucido.

Billy Bones Bad Boys, comprised of Joe Villagomez, Sam Babauta, Diamond Aldan, Dave Palacios, and Keiji Takeda, out-dueled the Home Boys, 4-3, as the two brother teams are now occupying the third and fourth places, respectively in the seven-team field Agingan division.

Wild Wild West was the only other team that has not played.

The Obyan Division has more teams participating this year with eight, including current leaders D’Pirates Huwa and BwiBwi’s Shark Attack.

Huwa leaned on the services of old reliables Ray Basa, Ray Taka, and Tero Taka to dispose off USSP Fotten Palau, 5-2, and join Shark Attack in the division lead.

Shark Attack got the needed breaks at home from Patrick Taitano, Bill Limes, Bernard Kileleman, and Ben Norita to score an easy 5-2 win against the visiting Monte Carlo Perfect Spotters.

D’Pirates 8 Ballers and BwiiBwi’s Da Snipers also began their title quest on a bright note as both teams triumphed on the road.

Edward Suzuki, Pat Cepeda, Perry Inos, and Vince Cepeda won in singles to lift the 8 Ballers to a 4-3 win against their host USSP Wat Ever.

Leo Sablan, Bill Kaipat, and Leo Sablan carried the load for Da Snipers in their 4-3 decision against host team VFW Warriors.
