EMO warns of rough seas until Saturday
Breezy trade winds generating combined seas near 10 feet will cause dangerous conditions for small vessels in coastal waters for the next several days, according to a notice issued yesterday afternoon by the Emergency Management Office. EMO warned of rough seas, especially on east facing exposures.
EMO is strongly advising the general public—especially beachgoers, fishermen, tourists, swimmers, divers and surfers—to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches. Exercise caution when entering or leaving harbors, especially on north and east facing shores.
The small craft advisory will be in effect through Saturday afternoon, EMO said. A small craft advisory means that seas 10 feet or greater and sustained winds of 22 knots or higher are expected to produce conditions hazardous to small craft.
Today, EMO predicts east winds of 20 knots, with gusts of up to 30 knots. Wind waves will be 7 to 9 ft, while east swells will be 5 ft. The same conditions apply tonight, except for east swells, which are seen to climb to 6 ft.
On Friday, east wind will be 20 to 25 knots, with wind waves of 7 to 9 ft. East swell is seen at 6 ft.
On Saturday, east wind will be 20 knots with gusts of up to 30 knots and wind waves at 7 to 9 ft. East swell is at 5 ft.
On Sunday, east wind is projected at 15 to 20 knots, wind waves 6 to 8 ft, and east swell 5 ft.
