Falcons overpower D’9ers, 13-3
Even with a new coach, the Tanapag Falcons want to keep their baseball tradition intact.
“Baseball is what Tanapag is known for and we will try our best to make our mark this year just like what we have been doing in the past,” said team manager Manny Evangelista, who debuted with a morale-boosting victory in the 2009 Saipan Major League.
The Falcons overpowered the D’9ers, 13-3, on the second day of action Monday night at the Francisco “Tan Ko” M. Palacios Baseball Field.
“We have high hopes,” Evangelista said after the easy win.
He replaced Isidoro Camacho, who is busy managing in the Little League.
The Falcons, who last won the title in 2007 after beating the Masters in the championship, are fighting this year with a strong batting lineup. They were tied for third last year with the D’9ers.
“Once we start hitting, we are confident to win,” he said.
Paul Camacho struck out six batters after the seven-inning game due to the 10-run rule. He allowed six hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch.
The Falcons scored five runs from Pat Camacho, John Acosta, John Tenorio, Bob Lizama, and Jeff Tenorio in the bottom of the second inning, while catcher Erik Tenorio added one in the third.
They added four more runs in the fourth from Bob Lizama, Jeff Tenorio, Bob Bansil, and Erik Tenorio and the Falcons took a commanding 10-1 lead.
Bansil and Lizama also reached home plate in the sixth and seventh, respectively, as they wrapped up the win on an out by Mike Pangelinan, who was hit by the ball while running from second to third by a grounder from teammate Kelly Heliew.
Outfielder Leo Dikito posted two runs for D’9ers in the third and seventh and one from Jo Dikito in the sixth.
With the victory, the Falcons now share the lead with defending champion Rock Steady, which opened its campaign with a 6-5 win over Ford Rangers.
Tomorrow’s game will be between Masters and Korean Phoenix starting at 6:30pm.
