Docomo shares Navy Hill lead, Taco Bell wins

Docomo forced a tie for the lead in the 2009 Navy Hill Friendship Basketball League after outclassing Rollers Basketball Club, 94-87, Sunday night at the Garapan Basketball Court.

The win was Docomo’s eighth in nine games, putting them in a tie for first place with Dollar Days. Rollers dropped to third place, absorbing their first loss in eight games.

Docomo led by as much as 15 points at halftime, 51-36, but Rollers threatened to come back in the second half with Pete Iguel and Manny Matagolai combining for 22 points and moving their team within four, 65-69, entering the fourth period.

Rollers kept Docomo within striking distance at the start of the payoff canto, until timely baskets from Ponce Rasa and Robert Sanciangco secured the win for Docomo.

Rasa had nine markers in the fourth period and finished with a game-high 26 points, while Sanciangco chipped in eight.

Four other Docomo players finished in double figures for the team’s balance offense. Chris Kochman nailed 17, Gil Miranda fired 14, and James Lee and Jerry Diaz contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Iguel led the Rollers with 25 points.

In the second game, KFC/Taco Bell outgunned the San Antonio Shooters in the fourth period, 39-19, to notch a 93-81 victory.

The win was Taco Bell’s fifth in eight games, while the loss was the Shooters seventh in nine matches.

Taco Bell was down by five at the end of the third quarter, 55-60, when Bonbon Cadagat and J.R. Concepcion anchored a scoring spree in the payoff canto.

Cadagat exploded for 17 fourth-quarter points, while Concepcion tallied 10 to help Taco Bell recover and steal the win.
