As part of the Northern Marianas College’s increased efforts to expand administrative capacities and to enhance technology services for the campus community, members of the NMC Information Technology Department will undergo training focused on fiber optics installation, troubleshooting, and data cabling installation.

The training sessions will be facilitated by Community College’s Electronics Department chair John Limtiaco and are scheduled to take place in the IT conference room on the NMC campus on Feb. 23–27, 2009, and March 2–6, 2009.

“These trainings are critically important for all the IT personnel to attend in order to be able to deploy, support, and maintain the fiber optics and data cabling [physical layer] of the NMC Gigabit Computer Network,” said IT director Adrian Atalig.

“At the same time, these trainings will provide the staff with the knowledge and skills to prepare for the Electronic Technicians Association Fiber Optics Installer and the Data Cabling Installer Certification examinations,” Atalig added. “This certification is important to ensure that the IT staff has the required credentials to support NMC’s mission—critical networking infrastructure.”

The IT department continues its efforts to upgrade and implement various projects that make the college’s network faster, more stable, and increasingly more efficient. (NMC)
