Bennet Seman won her first title of the year in a memorable Valentine’s Day at the fairways.

Seman submitted the lowest net score of 67 to rule the February edition of the 2009 CNMI Women’s Golf Association February Tournament last Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.

Playing with a USGA handicap of 26, Seman’s gross score could have been lower if not for several miscues at the turn.

After she joined two other players with one of the lowest scores of 43 in the first nine holes, she then slowed down with a 50 in the back nine for a gross score of 93, but it was more than enough to win the title.

With her sterling performance, Seman earned 15 points as she also improved her fifth place finish last previous month when she fired a net score of 75.

Terry Tudela, who was seventh with a 78 in the January edition of the tee off, settled for second five shots behind with net score of 72.

Tudela, who has an 18 handicap, came in with a gross score of 90, including 43 in the front and 47 in the back. She earned 14 points.

Lou Kim managed third place with a net of 73 as the 16-handicapper checked in with 37-38 for a gross of 75 that gave her 13 points.

Noriko Togawa, who was third in the previous tournament with her net 74, slipped to fourth place this time with another 74 as the one-handicapper shot the lowest score in the first nine holes with a 37 as well as the lowest in the final nine holes of 38 for a gross of 75. She earned 12 points.

Her daughter Yuko Togawa, who was second in January with a net 73, earned 11 points as she fell to fifth this month with her net 78 after the five-handicapper recorded a 42-41 for a gross of 83.

Masayo Miyamoto and Terue Ukita have similar net scores of 78 to finish sixth and seventh place, respectivelt. The 12-handicapper Miyamoto had the lower gross of 90 (48-42) as against the 23-handicapper Ukita’s 101 (51-50). They got 10 and nine points, respectively.

January champion Shiori Onoue topped two other players with a net of 79 to occupy the eighth position.

Onoue, the seven-handicapper who shot a net 72 last month, came up with 41-45 for a gross of 86.

Chang Eun Ae settled for ninth with a net 79 to rise from 16th place in her previous tournament when she settled with a net 83.

Kung A Yang also submitted net 79 to complete the Top 10.

Other participants of last weekend’s tourney, with their net scores in parenthesis, were Kimiko Abe (81), Lorraine Babauta (82), Seo Kyung Ran (85), and Xiao L Wang (86).

A total of 18 players joined the February tournament, including four who have lower net scores but failed to submit the required score card requirement for handicap posting.

They were Sherlyn Jones (76), Matilde Hocog (76), Pil Kitami (77), and Sachiko Adachi (75).
