Police officers’ quick response to a burglary report yesterday morning led to the arrest of three male juveniles and the recovery of the stolen items from the suspects’ hideout in Chalan Kanoa.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said the suspects were a 17-year-old Palauan, a 12-year-old Chamorro, and a 12-year-old Carolinian.

The items recovered included canned goods, a ukulele, a hat, flashlight, and rice.

Police officers immediately responded to Chalan Kanoa District III after DPS received a report at 9:15am that a burglary and theft was in progress.

Preliminary police investigation showed that the male juveniles burglarized a residence of a Filipino couple and stole several items.

Ogumoro said police learned that the suspects entered the house through the bathroom window and back door.

According to one of the victims, he left the house for just five minutes and when he returned, he discovered the burglary in progress.

The victim immediately called the police.

Police officers searched the vicinity of the house and eventually located two boys hiding in an abandoned building near Shany II Laundry.

When police got into the building, one of the suspects ran away, but an officer caught him during the chase.

Ogumoro said the two arrested suspects confessed to the crime after being questioned.

Ogumoro said one suspect brought the police officers to their hideout, resulting in the arrest of the third suspect and the recovery of some of the stolen items.

Burglary and theft cases perpetrated mostly by juveniles have been reportedly on the rise in Chalan Kanoa the past three years.
