Raffle drawing increases participation in DES PTA
Dandan Elementary School’s reintroduction of raffle drawings during PTA meetings have resulted in better parental participation, according to principal Jonas Barcinas.
“This year we embarked our strategies by bringing back the raffle drawing concept and for the past three months now, our PTA and school leaders have been seeing so much positive feedback and more parental participation during our monthly PTA meetings,” he said.
Barcinas, however, emphasized that, while he understand the difficulties and challenges parents go through, they should attend school PTA meetings regardless if there are raffles or not.
“We are all aware that we do have parents that are working parents, parents without proper transportation and parents with young children. Our parents are just as busy as anyone else.”
Barcinas said the raffle drawing concept is just another way of bringing DES parents to attend important meetings.
“Our DES parents have always been very participative in all school functions and with that, the leadership team has decided to provide more incentives for those parents and a family member that shows up will eventually get a raffle ticket per family member.”
Barcinas said DES is grateful and proud that its students’ parents come to the PTA meetings and help in one way or another.
“It is stressed to all our parents just how important PTA meetings are. We do not want to leave them behind by not inviting them to be a part of the decision-making of their children’s education. It is understood through various communication with them such as newsletters, parent letter, phone calls, flyers, just to name a few.”
Barcinas also acknowledged the stores and individuals who have donated some in-kind goods to the school’s monthly PTA raffle drawings, including Jin’s Mart, Mom and Pops store, Jenny’s Mart, Taga Mart, Assin Store, Dolphins, Hi Mart, PTA president Vince Torres and family, PTA vice president Ed Arriola, DES principal and vice principal, Rep. Ralph Torres, and Princess Torres.
He also thanked DES PTA officers for purchasing several prizes such as frozen goods, among others, for the raffle drawing. (PR)
