‘Don’t count your chickens yet’
Juan Pan recently came out stating how confident he is that he will be the next governor. I am deeply troubled by this, considering how many candidates are running for this office and how competitive the gubernatorial race seems to be.
In my opinion, Juan Pan should not treat the people of the CNMI with such disrespect and contempt. He should not take our voters for granted and pocket our votes even before they are actually counted after the election is done. As a businessman, Mr. Juan Pan should know better than to count his chickens before they hatched, nine months before the vote. This way is too premature and a lot can happen in the intervening months between now and Election Day.
I personally feel that a gubernatorial candidate should be humble and respectful of the people. He should not take people for granted or be too arrogant or overconfident. In a time like this, we need humble, prudent, and even-tempered leaders, not arrogant hotheads making premature or naughty pronouncements. I am disappointed in Juan Pan. I wish he would display more respect and humility in keeping with our island culture.
