Cindy Tice, a nursing instructor at the Northern Marianas College, was recently awarded the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award by the College of Wooster.

Tice was notified of the award by David Gillis, who sits on the Wooster Alumni Board and chairs the Distinguished Alumni Award Committee.

According to Gillis, the award is the “highest award given to our alumni by the Alumni Association and the College.”

Tice will be honored at the Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony in Ohio on June 5, 2009, as part of Wooster’s Alumni Weekend event.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to alumni who have distinguished themselves in one or more of the following areas: professional career; service to humanity; and service to Wooster.

Some of the recent recipients of the award include Donald L. Kohn, vice chairman of the Federal Reserve; Stanley C. Gault, former CEO of Rubbermaid Corp.; Timothy P. Smucker, chairman of the J.M. Smucker Co.; and Susan Q. Stranahan, Pulitzer Prize winning writer.

The College of Wooster is an independent liberal arts college, founded in 1866 and nationally recognized for an innovative curriculum that emphasizes independent learning.

The college is located in Wooster, Ohio, a community of 26,000, approximately 55 miles southwest of Cleveland.

NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez lauded Tice’s achievement.

“We congratulate and thank her for bringing such distinction to the college,” said Fernandez.

Tice said she is humbled by the recognition.

“I am truly humbled by this recognition by other alumni at Wooster,” said Tice. “I have always enjoyed my profession and teaching it to young people, and to be recognized for doing what I love is a wonderful thing.”

Tice has been a nursing instructor at NMC for more than 11 years.
