The Department of Public Works’ Energy Division will be on Rota this Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, and Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, to give away two free compact fluorescent light bulbs to the island’s residents.

This promotion is available to all residential paying customers of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Consumers must provide a copy of their CUC utility bill to receive two free CFLs per customer.

The CFL distribution is part of the “Energy Star” Awareness Project and the Northern Mariana Islands’ participation in the “Change the World, Start with ‘Energy Star’” national campaign.

The event will be at the Rota Round House from 9am to 4pm on Friday and from 9am to 12pm on Saturday.

The DPW Energy Division will also be providing information about CNMI vendors offering products or services involving energy conservation and alternative, renewable energy.

ACE Hardware will be on site displaying their products, including their “buy one, get one” free promotion on the CFLs and the Energy Star Elastomeric Roof Coating. For every CFL purchased from ACE, Energy Division will provide one free with a limit of 6 pieces per customer and if you purchase an Elastomeric primer, you will get a free coating (limit 1 per household). This promotion is extended to residential homeowners only and not for businesses.

For more information about the free CFLs, you may call the Energy Division at 664-4480/1. If you need more information about Energy Star, visit the website at www.energystar.gov/change the world.
